Higher Education: The Key to Make India a Developed Nation

Swami Vivekananda said, “Education is not the amount of information that is put in your mind and runs riot there undigested all your life.  The use of higher education is to find out how to solve the problems of life.” According to Swami Vivekananda “ A nation advances in proportion to education and intelligence spread among masses. It can help India to grow into her full potential as a strong united nation with strong moral and cultural values”.

Higher Education in India is one of the most developed in the entire world. There has in fact been considerable improvement in the higher education scenario of India in both quantitative and qualitative terms. The governance of the Indian Higher education sector is changing. Like the Indian economy underwent a liberalizing in the 1990s, the education system is gradually being opened up for change and decentralization. In particular, the federal and state governments are gradually giving higher education institutions more decision and spending power

Promising future: Radical Departure from Affiliated to Autonomous Colleges

Autonomy in principle enables a college to develop and propose programmes that are considered relevant by that college, to its immediate environment as well as the country as a whole. In other words, a college should be able to identify the aspirations of the community that is around it and effectively translate those aspirations into a viable academic programme. The teacher himself / herself will study the individual and social needs, and based on the feedback from the industry, employers, faculty, students and current status of technology, will arrive at the course of study and design the curriculum in order that every student is well informed of the recent development in the discipline of his choice, is capable of self - learning, reasoning and is creative. A substantial qualitative development in the students’ attitude, basic improvement in discipline, better staff and student interaction and higher employability are some of the key benefits of autonomy.

Budget 2015: Focus shifts to higher education

By 2020, the Indian government aims to achieve 30% gross enrolment in higher education, which is currently as low as 18%. But in the present scenario there is a great demand of higher education .The good thing is that it is a ripe time for higher education which is very much evident in the budget 2015.The Union government has decided to invest 22% more on higher education and subsequently it will lead to better jobs requiring better qualified  people.

Need for a Single Entrance Exam

The one confusion that stupefies a student at 10+2 or undergraduate level is that, to which all college entrance exams he/she shall should appear. Many a times some exams come out to be at such intervals that it hampers most of the attempts. Plus the traveling to far off places for appearing and preparing for all, differently, adds to the opportunity cost. But once you have an option to give a single exam that covers most of the colleges you desired, its obviously prudent to refrain from appearing in zillions of exams. ERA foundation has revolutionized the education arena by introducing Uni-GAUGE EMeD common entrance examination which provides a single gateway to students to apply to different universities.
